| Sponsor | ericthehamster | May 14, 9:39am | | When I first got my ped (a couple of years ago), I was amazed how easy it was to build up the 10 000 steps, with a combination of rushing round the house, as well as walking to and from the railway station. |

| Sponsor | alice44 | May 14, 9:44am | When you have to do a little walking it is pretty easy -- if you don't it is a bit harder. My sister walks to the train or bus and walks three dogs and she gets 18,000 a day. When I worked in a building on the far side of campus I found it pretty darned easy now I am going to have to work at it a bit -- ;-).
I bet when you get your meter out you'll be doing lots. |

| Sponsor | battlecat | May 14, 9:45am | | What is the average steps/hour rate? |
|
| Sponsor | ericthehamster | May 14, 9:49am | | Now there's a question - I'm not sure mine's sophisticated enough to work it out. |
|
| Sponsor | alice44 | May 14, 9:52am | It's like mph or kph it varies a great deal!
I cannot remember the thinking on why 10,000 was decided a good number of steps for a healthy life. It might have been Japanese researchers. My friend used pedometers to study the exercise habits of kids. They were much more active on schooldays than weekends. |

| Sponsor | xyzzyplugh | May 14, 10:22am | back from pm walk total now is 13,002 steps, i don't use my ped round the house just for dogwalks, i do about 4,500 steps per hour, 5,000 is brisk walking, and burns 250Kcals per hour (approx of course depending on your weight, heavier people burn more,)
my pedometer shows steps, distance (Km), time, calories (Kcal) and fat (g) burned, by Omron at amazon

astore.amazon.co.uk/scientific-21/detail/B0002JZOBY [astore.amazon.co.uk/scientific-21/detail/B0002JZOBY]
cost £20. i had a cheaper one before cost about £10 clip on belt, but it was a bit crappy and hard to set up and i lost it anyway,
this one i wear as neck pendant.

| Sponsor | alice44 | May 14, 10:48am | | Mine is a digiwalker -- and it appears to be outdated --more like Eth's than zyzz's. I've had it for several years. I've had several brands and killed them all except this one. I think mine was 25.00 with free replacement but what with shipping it is not really free. |
